In a major push towards the data protectin market, Storage Technology Corp. (StorageTek) today unveiled its Business Contingency Planning Services and plans to offer future disaster recovery storage solutions.

“We recognize that our customers’ most crucial asset is their data. Today marks another step in delivering customer-oriented business continuity and disaster recovery to ensure the safety of their data solutions,” said Pat Martin, StorageTek chairman, president and CEO. “By recognizing that disaster recovery requires a complete solution approach, StorageTek has shifted from being a product-centric company to one offering full business continuity services and disaster recovery capabilities.”

The first aspect of the offering is Continuity Planning, which the company said consists of a business impact analysis to investigate the effects of various outages and disasters on the operation of a company, the risks they pose and a recommendation on how best to mitigate potential hazards.

The second aspect involves the forging of strategic alliances that StorageTek hope will make it a full-scale, cost-effective end-to-end provider of disaster recovery services to small- and medium-sized businesses. In the future, the company said it would like to see these partnerships result in a suite of scalable disaster recovery solutions.
