StorNet, a provider of networked storage services, announced that it has completed the design and implementation of a centralized backup and recovery system for the Government Electronic Systems division of Lockheed Martin.

According to StorNet, the Government Electronic Systems division needed more secure backups and improved disaster recovery. Prior to this project, the division used a wide variety of tape devices attached to each server to perform the backup function. The old backup system required manual changing of tapes as well as moving tapes between buildings for purposes of disaster recovery was significant.

Upon reviewing Lockheed’s backup and recovery system, StorNet recommended that data automatically be backed up to libraries centrally located in one of the two buildings. StorNet said it integrated two libraries for tape storage and provided implementation services and ongoing telephone support for all products installed.
