Jan 8, 2002

Veritas Software Corporation today announced it has completed the acquisition of The Kernel Group Incorporated (TKG), a privately held software company based in Austin, Texas. TKG is the developer of Bare Metal Restore, a solution to fully automate system recovery of Windows and all major UNIX platforms in the event of data corruption or hardware failure.

“Bare Metal Restore is an important component of a total disaster recovery solution that includes backup and recovery, clustering and replication management,” said Kris Hagerman, senior vice president, strategic operations, Veritas Software. “Leveraging TKG’s leading software products and proven engineering talent, Veritas Software will further integrate this advanced technology with its storage management software to satisfy the rapidly maturing disaster recovery requirements of our enterprise customers.”

According to Veritas, Bare Metal Restore automates and accelerates the full system recovery capabilities of Veritas NetBackup, eliminating the need for personnel to reconfigure disk hardware and reinstall the operating system.
