Vixel Corporation today announced all Vixel Fabric switches will ship with the company’s new Fabric TransPort(TM) switch firmware. The new firmware, Vixel claims, allows end users to build heterogeneous SANs using Vixel switches, current switch products from Brocade and FC-SW-2 compliant switches from Gadzoox, QLogic and McDATA.

Vixel’s 7000 Series switches are now currently shipping with the new firmware and the company’s new 9000 Series 2Gb/s switches will ship with Fabric TransPort firmware at their date of general availability, which is June 28, 2001. Existing Vixel switch customers can download the new firmware directly from Vixel’s web site.

According to Vixel, its new interoperable firmware solution has been successfully deployed in different storage and OS end-user environments, and has also been tested in the independent laboratories of Infinity I/O, a provider Fibre Channel training and the initiator of the Fibre Channel certification process approved by SNIA (Storage Networking Industry Association).
