Looking to provide a service-level management view into multiple versions of BEA WebLogic application servers, the computing infrastructure they are running on and the applications themselves, BMC Software Inc., an infrastructure ASP and independent software vendor (ISV), yesterday announced PATROL for BEA WebLogic 2.1.
PATROL for BEA WebLogic 2.1 is designed to monitor WebLogic Server versions 5.1 to 7.0 from a single PATROL Console. BEA’s WebLogic server is a Java application server for Web-based and wireless applications.
In addition to BEA WebLogic Servers, PATROL for WebLogic is also designed to monitor and manage the underlying computing infrastructure and the applications that are deployed on the WebLogic Server — from a single-pane view.
With the release, BMC claims to be the first vendor to provide monitoring for WebLogic’s clustering architecture. PATROL for WebLogic 2.1 discovers all clusters, managed servers and deployed components and services, and then allows administrators to manage the cluster by setting alerts if key thresholds are exceeded. Recovery actions can be programmed and triggered when less-than optimal application and server performance are discovered, reducing the need for IT support, BMC says.
