Network solutions company Ascend Communications, Inc. today announced that global ISP PSINet Inc. selected its MultiVoice solutions for large-scale Voice-over-Internet deployment.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Ascend bills MultiVoice as an architecture for deploying “toll quality” voice and fax traffic over Internet Protocol and Frame Relay networks.

The firm said it uses scalable WAN networking technologies, new developments in voice compression, and quality of service
mechanisms to provide bandwidth.

Under today’s agreement, components of PSINet’s PSIVoice suite of products will be built on Ascend’s MultiVoice for the MAX solution.

“Ascend’s Multivoice to the MAX product is proven, scalable, secure, and based on recognized international communication standards,” stated Mark Fedor, vice president of engineering for PSINet.

“The MAX equipment will integrate with a broad range of other
standards-compliant access technologies delivering toll-quality to PSIVoice customers.”
