PSINet, Wang Global in Worldwide VOIP Alliance

Looking to grow its international
customer base, Internet service provider PSINet Inc. Monday added network firm Wang Global to its list of partners
supporting its PSIVoice service.

PSIVoice is an Internet Protocol-based service capable of transmitting
voice and data over the PSINet network.

With operations in 42 countries around the world, Wang
will provide services to complement PSINet’s existing network operations,
engineering, field services, and administration in the United States,
Canada, Europe and Asia. No financial specifics were disclosed.

“The alliance combines the expertise of two industry leaders while offering
a standardized global support infrastructure for PSIVoice,” said George
Blake, vice president of Wang’s enterprise transport group.

“The PSINet/Wang Global alliance represents another critical milestone in
the evolution of PSIVoice and reaffirms the PSINet network as a reliable
and secure information utility upon which
businesses can expand operations, reduce operating costs, and increase
profitability,” said Sandy Blaisdell, PSINet vice president for field
services.

PSINet already has aligned with Ascend Communications to implement the
PSIVoice technology, which is currently in its first phase of demonstration.

Industry analysts predict IP technology to be the future of the Internet.
Nearly one-half of companies interviewed by Forrester Research expect to
experiment with Internet voice and Internet fax by the end of 1999.
