Qwest Cyber Solutions, (QCS) an enterprise ASP and subsidiary of telecom giant Qwest Communications, yesterday announced a multi-year ASP contract with the city of Omaha and Douglas County, Nebraska. QCS did not specify the dollar value of the contract.
Under terms of the agreement, QCS will provide the government agencies with hosting and management services for their Oracle enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
“Choosing to use an ASP was a major decision since we were looking for a partner that would allow us to effectively and efficiently integrate city and county operations,” said Mike Fahey, mayor, city of Omaha.
City governments, faced with strict IT budgets, are becoming logical candidates for ASP solutions. QCS reports that by outsourcing the hosting and managing of their Oracle system, the city of Omaha and Douglas County will cut costs associated with infrastructure, personnel and implementation. QCS also said that the ASP solution allow the governments to better coordinate activities through joint access to time-sensitive financial information that is housed in one secure system.
“Government agencies are increasingly looking to ASPs to help update existing or legacy applications because we provide them with application expertise as well as an upfront savings in capital investment in infrastructure,” said Doug Stone, President Qwest Cyber Solutions.
According to QCS, the city of Omaha and Douglas County will use Ultimate Freedom by QCS, an integrated enterprise ASP package that runs a scalable solution for its 285 users of Oracle’s General Ledger, Budget Preparation, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Fixed Assets, Inventory, Accounts Receivable, Project Accounting, Grants Accounting, Human Resources and Payroll applications. The applications will be hosted in Qwest’s Highlands Ranch, Colo. CyberCenter and will run over the Qwest Communications broadband network. The contract is backed by QCS Enhanced Response ProofPositive service level agreement (SLA).
QCS software portfolio includes applications from Ariba, Captura, Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP and Siebel Systems.
ASPnews currently lists QCS as a Top 20 ASP.
