Web-host Verio Inc., a subsidiary of NTT Communications, announced Tuesday (Feb 27) it will offer the Oracle8i database to small- and medium-sized businesses through an ASP model and Oracle’s iHost partner initiative, part of the Oracle Partner Program (OPP).

Under the iHost initiative, Verio will receive assistance to market its product and expects to leverage mutual relationships to further expand and enhance new services. Verio’s hosted Oracle databases are provided to their customers on both shared and dedicated servers.

A shared Oracle database includes Oracle8i on Verio hardware in a Verio data center, including managed services such as monitoring, data backup and recovery. Dedicated servers running the Oracle8i database offer control over a customized Oracle server and its configurations.

“By building our Hosted Oracle database with Oracle8i, which is an ideal product to power applications in a hosted environment, we are supporting Verio’s commitment to helping businesses of all sizes compete in today’s dynamic market,” said Barb Goworowski, chief marketing officer for Verio. “By delivering the most reliable and secure database available via an ASP model, Verio can give its customers the best of everything; reduced cost of ownership, advanced technology features and scalability.”

The total cost of ownership is reduced significantly through Verio’s Hosted Oracle database services. Competitive pricing, database maintenance and monitoring by Verio mean less risk and less up-front expense. Priced at a flat rate, Hosted Oracle databases are available in three service plans based on concurrent connections. A pricing model based on concurrent connections ensures each account optimal access to the server’s central processing unit (CPU) time and optimal speed for all data transactions.

The Oracle Partner Program is a global business network of more than 12,000 companies that deliver innovative e-business solutions with Oracle software. The Oracle Partner program provides access to Oracle’s premier products, education, technical services, marketing and sales support.

Verio Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTT Communications, which provides long distance and international telecommunications reaching over 200 countries worldwide. Verio offers customers a broad range of Internet solutions, including Web hosting, e-commerce, virtual private networks and managed service offerings, among other enhanced services.
