Verio, NTT to Launch Web Hosting Services in Japan

Verio Inc. Tuesday inked a deal with NTT Communications to bring co-branded services to the Japanese market.

NTT Communications is part of the Nippon Telephone and Telegraph, a group of telecommunications companies and a leading ISP in the country. The entire NTT group will access the co-branding agreement with Verio which provides Web hosting and Internet access to businesses.

The services are scheduled to become available in the spring of next year.

“NTT’s existing customer base, and an estimated target market of more than 7 million businesses in Japan today, provide Verio with a powerful and pervasive Japanese distribution channel,” said Hisao
Iizuka, NTT Communications’ senior vice president.

“We view the Japanese market as an important step in our overseas expansion efforts,” said Justin L. Jaschke, chief executive officer of Verio. He added that Verio considers the deal with NTT as an important step in increasing name recognition in Asia.

NTT previously invested $100 million in Verio
(VRIO)
in May of last year. The two companies are also cooperating to develop NTT Communications’ new data center in Tokyo, from which Verio’s Web-hosting services will be offered.
