WebMethods Unveils New Strategy

Integration software developer WebMethods Inc. said it has introduced what it called a “revolutionary new approach to providing companies with true Global Business Visibility — a single view into all aspects of corporate operations.” The Fairfax, Va.-based firm also rolled out a specification for systems management of integration backbones

To achieve a state where a company’s many systems can function as a single, optimized environment, WebMethods said it has developed strong partnerships with leading enterprise-application vendors. Through these partnerships and through the use of WebMethods technology, a business can achieve Global Business Visibility, officials said.

WebMethods’ products are “uniquely positioned to address this challenge because webMethods’ software is already embedded into the most important applications used by Global 2000 companies and has the most extensive support for all facets of integration,” the company said in a statement.

Companies like BEA Systems, BMC Software, Computer Associates and Hewlett-Packard, i2 Technologies, J.D. Edwards and SAP are partnering with WebMethods in its new initiative.

WebMethods also rolled out its Open Management Interface (OMI) specification for systems management of integration backbones. The OMI specification will provide the monitoring mechanisms necessary to gain full visibility into enterprise-wide e-business operations, allowing application integration components to be managed in the same manner as systems infrastructure. This common monitoring paradigm will enable companies to deliver on the promise of true end-to-end service level management.

Co-authored with Hewlett Packard, the OMI specification is also endorsed by the other leading systems management vendors: BMC, Computer Associates and Tivoli. The combination of systems management and integration software will allow IT organizations to monitor the health and progress of business processes, as well as the health of their technology systems.
