A report from job consultants Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc. said that 8.7 percent of job seekers gaining employment in Q2 2009 chose to found their own business, a sharp rise from 4.3 percent during the same quarter a year ago.

The organization provides services for everyone, but tends to work with executives, according to Jim Pedderson, head of PR for Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.

“Our programs are heavily populated by those at the managerial and executive level, who tend to have more experience (I think the median age typically falls between 42 and 45),” he said in an e-mail to InternetNews.com.

The company provides both job placement and startup advice to its customers.
