Intel Readies Android 2.2 Port for x86

Intel’s Atom has come late to the smartphone party and found ARM has scooped up all the hot dates. Not a company known for giving up a fight, Intel is retrenching around its new power-efficient Atom processor and preparing a port of the Android 2.2 operating system to Atom. Enterprise Mobile Today looks at the implications.


Intel is working on a fully native x86 version of Android 2.2 and plans to ship its version of the Google-backed mobile operating system to developers in the next two months.

Given how slowly Android 2.2, codenamed “Froyo,” has come to market, that would make x86 one of the first platforms to get the Linux-based OS.
