Smartphones continue selling like hotcakes, driven largely by the still white-hot interest in the Apple iPhone, despite the original version having gone on sale almost three years ago. The phone’s continued demand, coupled with new superstars like Android-powered handsets, has led to a surge in sales for smartphones across the board. Enterprise Mobile Today takes a look.
Shipments of smartphones in the first quarter of 2010 grew to 54.7 million units, a 56.7 percent increase over the first quarter of 2009,according to a report from market researcher IDC. That’s more than double the rate of the overall mobile market, which grew 21.7 percent year-over-year in the first quarter of 2010.
This comes after a 38 percent year-over-year jump in Q4 of 2009, which was impressive in and of itself.
