Adobe Systems Inc. Monday released Adobe GoLive 4.0 for Windows, the first version of its professional Web design and publishing tool for the Microsoft Windows platform.

Until this release, only Macintosh users were able to utilize the GoLive visual Web authoring environment. GoLive combines ease of use with precision, flexibility and the power that developers need to design, produce and maintain “world-class” Web sites.

Adove believes that GoLives cross-platform usability, visual design environment, and the manner in which it works in conjunction with other Adobe products such as Photoshop and Illustrator, make it a great tool for professional developers.

GoLive 4.0’s features offer developers a host of new layout capabilities, including:

  • A visual design environment with tools such as a QuickTime Movie Editor, WYSIWYG Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and a Layout View with Grid for pixel-level control
  • Support for emerging Web technologies such as Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Microsofts Active Server Pages (ASP)
  • Productivity enhancements including global site management controls, and a studio of editors that make up a seamless, integrated work environment and integration with Adobe PDF

Adobe GoLive 4.0 for Microsoft Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 and Macintosh will sell for a retail price of $299.
