IBM, Sun Support Java Developers Alliance

EarthWeb teamed up with IBM and Sun Microsystems’ JavaSoft division today to launch the Java Developers Alliance.

The Java Developers Alliance (JDA) unites Java Users Groups (JUGs) into a global organization, providing services, opportunities, and assistance to help JUGs serve their members more efficiently.

Such efforts include the creation of a worldwide organization of JUGs; the coordination of public relations and marketing opportunities; user group funding grants; distribution of Java technology training materials; early access to technologies and products; a worldwide Java technology speaker’s bureau; member discount programs; and membership recruitment assistance.

The JDA is funded by EarthWeb, IBM, and JavaSoft and is currently a free
service to JUGs. All policies and future program decisions will be
determined by the Board, composed of JUGs leaders as well as
representatives from EarthWeb, IBM, and JavaSoft. Other major organizations
that support Java technology can join the JDA as sponsors and Board
members in the future.
