Icon Announces XML Spy Editor

Icon Information-Systems Thursday released version 2.5 of its XML Spy editor. XML Spy is a validating XML editor that enables users to edit XML, XHTML, XSL, RDF, 3DML, and DTD files.

XML Spy provides three integrated views of the documents a developer is working on:

  • Enhanced Grid View – shows the entire structure of an XML document in a
hierarchical presentation that allows in-place editing of all elements
  • Source View – view and edit the XML document in source form with customizable syntax-coloring
  • Browser View – uses Internet Explorer 5 to render the XML document inside XML Spy, supports CSS and XSL style-sheets and can be displayed in a separate window

The tool features detailed find, replace, and print options which are available in all views with full drag & drop capabilities. Functions which are used often are available from three context-sensitive toolbars and keyboard shortcuts. Full support for Unicode and character-set encoding is integrated into the editor for the seamless data exchange with foreign languages or writing systems.

Version 2.5 of XML Spy includes many new features such as DTD-Validation, the three-view architecture, additional character-set encodings, attribute preview, RDF support, faster parsing with better error messages, and an improved tabbed settings dialog.

A single-user license for XML Spy sells for $54, with multi-user,
site-licensing and educational discounts available upon request. For additional information, or to download a demo version, visit the Icon Information-Systems Web site.
