San Francisco’s Macromedia Inc. Monday announced that its application server has passed has passed Sun
Microsystems Inc.’s Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.3 test suite to achieve Sun’s J2EE 1.3
compatible brand.
This means the software program, Macromedia’s JRun, makes the capabilities of the J2EE 1.3 platform accessible to Java developers.
The J2EE 1.3 compatibility program helps JRun developers craft and bring applications to market quickly.
Macromedia JRun delivers the duties of the J2EE 1.3 specification in one integrated server, providing companies the ability to build
advanced business systems that enable multiple transactions and messaging for the enterprise. JRun supports all J2EE 1.3 APIs,
including Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB 2.0), JavaServer Pages (JSP 1.2), Java Servlets (2.3), Java Naming and Directory Interface
(JNDI), Java Transaction API (JTA), and Java Database Connectivity 2.0 technology (JDBC).

important for the evolution of Java.
“Given its rapid move to gain J2EE v 1.3 compatibility, Macromedia JRun offers developers the opportunity to leverage the new
innovative features of the latest version of enterprise Java,” Galantine said in a public statement. “The new specification promotes
further options for interoperability which JRun users can leverage to gain the benefit of simplified system integration.”
