Continuing its efforts to lure Java developers to the .NET platform, Microsoft Monday launched the Microsoft
Visual J# .NET development tool at Tech-Ed 2002 Europe in Barcelona, Spain.
The Redmond software giant said the release of Visual J# .NET rounds out the programming language offerings within its Visual Studio
.NET integrated development environment (IDE). Visual Studio .NET already offers Visual C++ .NET, Visual C# .NET and Visual Basic
.NET.
Microsoft intends for the tool to ease the transition for Java-language developers to its own XML Web services development platform.
The tool includes Visual J++ 6.0 upgrade tools, which Microsoft said can automatically upgrade and convert existing J++ 6.0 projects
and solutions to the Visual Studio .NET format
The tool is also fully integrated with Microsoft’s .NET Framework, including full cross-language integration with ASP.NET, ADO.NET,
Windows Forms and XML Web services.
Microsoft said the tool is immediately available at its Web site. MSDN
subscription customers can reach it at the MSDN download area.
