SoftQuad Releases HoTMetaL PRO 6.0

SoftQuad Software Inc. this week released HoTMetaL PRO 6.0, the latest version of its professional Web development environment.

New features were added to increase productivity and provide greater control over the Web development and management process.


Enhancements include FTP and remote file editing capabilities, improved handling of imported HTML pages, an improved drag-and-drop asset management system, and new customization options. Additionally, the product includes new learning tools and authoring aids that take the user from simple, WYSIWYG page design to full fledged HTML coding.


New product features of interest to developers include:


  • Enhanced FTP and Remote File Editing Features – support for proxy servers, firewalls and binary/ASCII transfers
  • Improved Source Editing and Authoring Aids – import pages created in another editor without making any changes
  • Improved Asset Manager – provides drag and drop access to a variety of asset types, including images, multimedia files, applets, and scripts; also includes more tools and pre-built effects
  • Extensibility and Customization – new COM interface and advanced scripting capabilities enable developers to deploy custom components

HoTMetaL PRO 6.0 is expected to shipping starting September 27th, 1999 for the Microsoft Windows 95/98 and NT 4.0 platforms. Retail price will be $129, with upgrades available for $49.95 to registered HoTMetaL PRO users who upgrade before October 31.
