It’s no secret that the U.S. Federal Government spends beaucoup money on information technology–to the tune of $38.5 billion last year. But the “secret” apparently blinded many Internet- and IT-related firms, who spent their time cultivating the dot-com customer. There was one exception to this rule, however; and the exception is taking advantage of the IT-buying frenzy of the governmental customer and expanding its sales force to meeting the needs.
Web-content management firm IntraNet Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:INRS), announced today that it was targeting the governemntal sector and expanding its sales force to do so.
To lead Minneapolis-based IntraNet Solutions’ government sales efforts, the company has named Glenn Pulling to the newly created position of director of federal operations. Pulling will be responsible for expanding the company’s
federal sales and business development team.
Prior to joining IntraNet Solutions, Pulling was head of federal operations for Banyan Worldwide, a market leader in delivering e-services based on leading-edge Internet and directory technology.
“The 1998 Government Paperwork Elimination Act, which requires federal agencies to stop using paper to create, use or store official records by 2002, is forcing government agencies to move business online,” said Pulling. “This process is creating a huge demand for products that can easily and securely manage content,
such as research reports, schematics and spreadsheets, online.”
Working with the government on IT projects isn’t really “news” for IntraNet Solutions, however. Unlike others, it has already cultivated several government customers including, including Los Alamos National
Laboratory, the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Departments of Justice and Energy, the National Security Agency, the United Nations, the FBI, the United States Navy and several state and local governments.
It recently became U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) 5015.2 certified for its joint product integration with Provenance Systems, an electronic records management software provider. The integrated product is a Web content manager certified by the DoD for new mandatory electronic recordkeeping software requirements.
