Palm Inc., in another move to attract enterprise customers, said Monday that it is offering fee software to those who purchase a 802.11b wireless local area network (WLAN) module for its handheld devices.

Specifically, the company said it was teaming with Intel subsidiary Xircom and a handful of other vendors. It said that those who purchase a Xircom Wireless LAN module from Palm’s online store will receive a CD-ROM with a variety of free and trial software.

Specifically, the CD includes virtual private network (VPN) software from Certicom. VPNs are seen by many security experts as a way to prevent security breaches on WLANs. Certicom’s movianVPN software will be offered on a 30-day trial basis before users must pay for it.

In addition, Palm is offering an e-mail client for Palm handhelds and vVault software for accessing files on desktop PCs. The bundle is available for between $499 and $599, depending on the handheld.
