Sun Microsystems Inc. released this week
two new Internet/intranet server solutions designed for small businesses
The Sun Enterprise Ultra 5S and the Sun Enterprise Ultra 10S servers are
entry-level server products that feature high-performance UltraSPARC
processors and the Solaris operating system.
Both products offer Solaris Web Start, a Java-based Web installation tool
that allows users to set up the server from any Java-enabled Web browser.
The Enterprise 5S server comes with 256KB external cache, up to 512MB of
memory and 4.2GB internal disk drive capacity, a 1.44MB floppy drive, and
three industry-standard PCI I/O slots.
The single-processor Enterprise10S system features 512KB external cache, up
to 1GB of memory, 8.4GB of internal disk drive capacity, and four PCI buses.
“The Enterprise 5S and Enterprise 10S systems deliver robust
enterprise-caliber technology and unmatched investment protection since customers can upgrade to larger systems within the Sun Enterprise server family as information systems needs change,” said Mark Canepa, vice president of Sun’s workgroup server division.
Both server products are available the first quarter 1998, with prices
starting at $3,795.
