AOL UK announced
Wednesday
that it will carry real-time share prices on its AOL and CompuServe sites through a deal with European investment bank
Dresdner Kleinwort Benson.
The new, information-only service will be powered by
Interactive Investor International
(iii), one of the UK’s top online personal finance services.
“AOL and CompuServe members have told us they are keen to know more about
the workings of the stock market,” said Alan Griffin, channel director at
AOL UK.
“Our partnership with Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, using iii’s technical
expertise
to bring the bank’s real-time share prices live to the desktop, is a superb
opportunity for our members to learn more about the fascinating world of
global finance.”
The deal between the two companies was brokered originally by iii,
according to iii’s chief executive Tomás Carruthers.
“Having worked separately with both companies, it is satisfying to have
introduced
AOL to DrKB and to bring this exciting service to fruition,” he said.
Users of both AOL and CompuServe in the UK will now be able to view
Dresdner Kleinwort Benson’s real-time share prices on each portal’s
respective Finance Channel. Although the service is described as
“information-only,” users can buy and sell shares online via the
online trading areas offered by both sites.
AOL UK, a division of AOL Europe, is pursuing a multi-brand policy
in Europe, with AOL, CompuServe and Netscape Online as its three main
services.
