BusinessWorld Online Creates Philippine Portal

Strengthening its presence on the Internet, Philippine content provider BusinessWorld Online has created a one-stop resource center called Portal Pilipinas.

The company’s
portfolio of information services currently comprises 12 publications and online
resources, and it expects to launch more Web sites soon.

“BusinessWorld Online’s Portal Pilipinas seeks to become your gateway to the
Philippines on the Internet,” said BusinessWorld in a briefer distributed to attendees of the Portal
Pilipinas launch. “Now, surfers who tire of scouring the Internet
for quality content on our country need only to visit this portal site.”

As a one-stop resource center, Portal Pilipinas features a repository of
information on the Philippines that is as diverse as it is in-depth. Portal
Pilipinas is divided into eight sections: news, business, research,
entertainment, lifestyle, shopping, classifieds, and communities. It also
features a regularly updated calendar of events in the country.

BusinessWorld Online, Inc. stands at the forefront of electronic publishing
in the Philippines. It began as a department of BusinessWorld Publishing in
1995 and was incorporated in 1997 to officially manage BusinessWorld Group’s
expansion into new media. BusinessWorld is the Philippines’ only financial
daily today.

BusinessWorld Online publishes BusinessWorld Internet Edition
and other leading information services on the
World Wide Web as well as provide Internet access, Web engineering services
and networking solutions to top corporations.
BusinessWorld Online
corporate site houses the company’s other web products and services.

These sites include a searchable online library of BusinessWorld articles called Codex, a global five-day weather forecast, a site containing information about APEC, an online features magazine called Outpost, an IT daily called i.t. matters, a Web-based help desk, a section on Southeast Asia economic indicators, and a searchable business directory of Philippine companies dubbed Connections.

It also maintains The
Centennial Pavilion, a site covering news, developments and
other features on the Philippine Centennial.

BusinessWorld Online now sends the latest stories of the day to readers via
e-mail through Webcast, its automated mailing list.

The company has also completed and launched “The Net Center”, an online resource for journalists and media practitioners in Asia and the Pacific. The Web site is a project of the Press Foundation of Asia and its member institutes, and was funded by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Another communities being built by BWOI is, Oows, a Web site for, by and about teens.

BusinessWorld Online maintains strategic alliances with major players in the
industry such as Netscape, Adobe, GRIC Communications, Inc. and Bridge
International. These partnerships are aimed at supporting BusinessWorld
Online’s ventures into new media and communication technology.
