IBM UK has announced that China Airlines, based in Taiwan, has implemented an online booking system, enabling frequent flyers to book flights over the Internet.
To achieve this, the airline is using IBM’s Airline Control System (ALCS) Web Server.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this online booking service to our frequent flyer members, and give them more convenient booking options for their travel arrangements,” said Allen Chung, China Airlines’ Manager.
“With IBM’s ALCS Web Server, we were able to successfully implement this new service with our own team of programmers. We are now working on enhancing the
service to include other features which will be of benefit to travelers, and also to make the service available to all other passengers.”
ALCS is part of IBM’s family of high performance transaction processing solutions. Its Web server allows ALCS users to implement online Internet access to existing applications. This access is served directly off the mainframe.
