Datacraft Buys Commis Network, Continues Korean Expansion

Singapore-based Datacraft Asia Ltd., the network systems integrator, has acquired Commis Network Inc. in South Korea making it the company’s third acquisition in three months and second in Korea.

In December 1998, the company, which is listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, acquired a Singapore cabling company, EMS Wiring Systems, for S$4.5 million (US$2.6 million) and a Korean networking company, Perfect Network Inc, for US$1.4 million.

Commis Network, an established networking company, was
purchased for US$3.7 million to accelerate the growth of Datacraft’s
business in Korea’s networking markets.

Commis Network’s important customers include Dacom, Korean Telecom, Shinsegae Group, Lotte Group and LG Group, as well as several government departments.

“The recent acquisition of Perfect Network represented our first step into
the Korean market,” said Des Althorp, chairman and CEO of Datacraft Asia.
“However, it was important to seek new opportunities to complement Perfect
Network, which has a strong multinational customer base but lacks the
presence among telecom service providers and major local enterprises.”

“Commis Network, with its proven expertise in telecom network design and
sales, and strong contacts with local enterprises, was therefore the
perfect match,” said Althorp.

“We fully expect that the two companies together will achieve revenues exceeding US$20 million next year,” added Althorp.

Established in 1992, Commis Network markets and services equipment from leading suppliers such as Cisco Systems, 3Com, Lannet and Xylan.

The company offers professional services and is supported by service team that includes three Cisco Certified Internetworking Engineers.

With the addition of Commis Network, which has offices in
Seoul and Taejeon, Datacraft now has 49 offices in the
Asia Pacific region and a representative office in the USA.
