Gateway, Yahoo! Partner for Personalization

In an effort to
personalize its services, Gateway 2000 Inc. Wednesday signed an agreement with Yahoo! to offer co-branded, customized Web
pages to gateway.net subscribers.

The agreement calls for Gateway My Yahoo! to be the default homepage
bundled in select Gateway computer systems with access to gateway.net.
Users can personalize their start pages to include news, sports and
financial information, as well as Yahoo channels such as finance travel and
shopping.

“Gateway has always taken a personalized approach to marketing technology,”
said
Ted Waitt, Gateway chairman and CEO. “Now, through our agreement with
Yahoo!, we can take this one step further, by helping our clients completely
optimize their Internet experience.”

While today’s agreement augments the content of gateway.net, the story of
who provides the actual Internet service is a complex one. In January,
Gateway’s former Internet provider, Web America Networks, sued the retailer
for misappropriating trade secrets. Gateway then sued Web America for
providing inadequate service. MCI Worldcom’s UUNet is Gateway’s current ISP.
