- AOL (NYSE:AOL) reports net income of $20.8 million, or $0.17 per share on a diluted basis for its fiscal 1998 second quarter ended Dec. 31, 1997. Revenues jump 45% vs. the same quarter last year to a record $592 million. These results compare to a net loss of $129.1 million or $1.37 per share on revenues of $409.4 million in last year’s corresponding quarter. Notably, ads, commerce and ‘other’ revenue is up 87% to $108.8 million.
- Earthlink (NASDAQ:ELNK) and Mindspring (NASDAQ:MSPG) shares find upside as investors scour the access space for AOL wannabes which could benefit from AOL’s move to hike monthly rates from $19.95 to $21.95 per member. At 13 million members bot ELNK and MSPG have a long way to go to catch AOL’s base. But it’s a big world and most people aren’t on the Web, even yet.
- Cybercash (NASDAQ:CYCH) reports $2 million fourth-quarter revenue with $5.1 million loss or $0.49 loss per share. 1997 revenue, about half which came in the fourth quarter, reaches $4.5 million with $26.5 million loss or $2.43 loss per share.
