  • WorldCom (NASDAQ:WCOM) reports $2 billion fourth quarter revenue, up 62% vs. 4Q96. Earnings hit $136.3 million or $0.15 earnings per common share vs. pro forma loss before non-recurring charges of $47.9 million or $0.05 loss per share 4Q96.
For the full year ended December 31, 1997, WorldCom posts revenues up 64% to $7.35 billion and $357.2 million net income, or $0.40 per share, vs. net income before non-recurring charges of $414.9 million, or $1.01 per share for 1996.

WorldCom highlights its Internet division (which is the formerly publicly-traded UUNET) at $102 million 4Q revenue, up 101%. Full-year Internet revenue reaches $566 million, up 124%. With MCI we think the Internet percentages here could take off beyond the impressive results so far.

  • The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) begins trading options on Versant Object Technology (NASDAQ:VSNT) on Tuesday, February 24. More awareness for the Web-and-ecommerce driven database firm may be in order here.

  • CDnow (NASDAQ:CDNW) and AOL (NYSE:AOL) hold hands in a exclusive music marketing deal for AOL’s Love@AOL area. We’ll see how this relationship pays off as e-tailers seek distribution to equal commerce.
