  • Infoseek (NASDAQ:SEEK) signs a multi-million dollar agreement with RealSelect (REALTOR.com) to allow its users a way to search and find homes on Infoseek’s search site. REALTOR.com features more than one million new and resale homes.

  • Netscape (NASDAQ:NSCP) CEO Jim Barksdale tells Congress “I and many others have become increasingly concerned that Microsoft’s abuse of its monopoly power, unless addressed through enforcement of our anti-trust laws, will adversely
    affect the course of American commerce and communications in the information age,” Barksdale said. Part of the Senate Judiciary looking into Microsoft’s business approach, which rivals allege is a monopoly one although supporters say is just plain business.

  • Open Market (NASDAQ:OMKT) receives three patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that covers fundamental technology for conducting business over the Internet. Open Market, which makes commerce server software, was one of the first to focus on this area in 1993, long before “Internet commerce” was even being discussed on a widespread basis. Those were the days when there weren’t even ads on the Web, let alone buying and selling.
