  • Lycos (NASDAQ:LCOS), an Internet navigation service, continues its aggressive moves in the Web guide space by agreeing to acquire WiseWire for $39.75 million in LCOS shares. WiseWire sorts information into directories based on user preference and selection automatically.

  • Mecklermedia (NASDAQ:MECK), producer of this report, announces it expects 25,000 people to attend its upcoming Summer Internet World trade show held July 13-17, 1998 at Chicago’s McCormick Place. This is the show’s second year and one of the fastest-growing trade shows in the Internet with more than 200 exhibitors.

  • Open Text (NASDAQ:OTEXF), which makes collaborative knowledge management application software, reports its third quarter ended March 31, 1998 revenue of $11.8 million, up 93% vs. 3Q97. Net income reaches $1 million or $0.06 earnings per share vs. a $0.20 loss per share 3Q97.

  • CDnow (NASDAQ:CDNW) reports first quarter ending March 31, 1998 revenue of $10.0 million, up 288% vs. 1Q97.
    The Web-based music e-tailer adds 135,000 new customers in the first quarter. Total customers to date = 432,000. Net losses 1Q98 are $9.2 million, or $0.78 per share, vs. a net loss of $544,000, or $0.07 per share, 1Q97.
