  • Spyglass (NASDAQ:SPYG) inks its largest deal yet for Web device browsers with Motorola which plans on using Spyglass’ browser and server software to support its products. SPYG shares gain on 13.92% to $14.25 per share on the news. SPYG CEO Doug Colbeth calls the deal “multi-million.” Amazing to recall that Spyglass was the original Mosaic licensee and had to shift into devices after Microsoft and Netscape went head to head. Will Web devices be big? TV may be, and this agreement may focus on that. Browsing via a cell phone seems difficult without device-friendly content being produced in quantity. We think Spyglass has the depth here to be a bigger player as the market starts to emerge.

  • Lycos (NASDAQ:LCOS) signs a $13 million agreement with insurance seller via the Web firm HealthAxis.com. Lycos will receive $6.5 million payment for the first 15 months and up to $6.5 million for the next 12 months based on policy sales goals. Lycos also gets some ad revenue for the pages served. These types of deals are the real revenue drivers for aggregation sites. We’re surprised more of them aren’t getting done daily.
