A new UK Web site called
artrepublic.com launched
this holiday period and has won the backing of top ISPs Line One
and MSN.
The brainchild of gallery owner Lawrence Alkin, artrepublic.com
will be trying to gain the attention of art lovers of every
description, from the “exhibition junkie” to those who know
very little about art and cannot tell a Monet from a Picasso. Both Line One and MSN will be promoting the new site on the two portal home pages.
At the site, visitors will be able to purchase art-related
gifts such as prints, posters, and books. It will also have
a “What’s on Worldwide” guide to art events, plus links to
the world’s major museums and galleries.
“Our site caters for all art fans from those people wanting
to make a swift online purchase to those that are genuinely
interested in art and want to learn more about specific
painters or are planning visits to exhibitions around the
world,” said Lawrence Alkin.
Key features of the site are the collection of 150
biographies of famous artists and the guide to popular
art movements from the sixteenth century to the present
day.
Development of the site will include a substantial increase
in the number of prints available for purchase and the
addition of new services like the What’s On Worldwide guide.
“There are plans for the site to offer more specialised
and collectable prints to include music and film
themes,” said Alkin.
