NeoPlanet Updates Browser

Aug 25, 1999

Alternative browser company NeoPlanet Inc. this week introduced version 5.0 of its namesake browser.

NeoPlanet is a Web environment that contains Web
browsing, e-mail, instant messaging, chat, and
virtual community applications. Users can
personalize their browsing environment through the
use of “skins” — predefined color and layout schemes
that can be applied to the overall look and feel of the
software.

Version 5.0 incorporates real-time instant
messaging and chat capabilities, as well as a “friends and clubs” feature
that allows users to form their own public or private
mini-communities with Web pages that
offer message boards and chat rooms, the firm said.

“Users can now have the wealth of the
Internet’s content, communication and community in
a single package offering freedom of customization
and total ease-of-use,” said Scott Benson, CEO of Valent
Software, a partner in the instant messaging tool.

Two versions of NeoPlanet are available. The full
version includes the instant messaging and
clubs features while the “classic” version does not.

Both versions are free to download from the
NeoPlanet Web site, the company said.
