Seattle.internet.com has learned that Network Commerce (formerly ShopNow.com) will be going forward with a strategy to make it possible for small and medium businesses to compete on the wireless front. The initiative, which will provide the businesses with the infrastructure to extend e-commerce to wireless networks and mobile wireless devices, will be spearheaded by Network Commerce’s Executive Vice President and CTO Dr. Ganapathy Krishnan.
The company’s wireless strategy will include launching the Network Commerce Wireless CommerceSuite, the Network Commerce Wireless Business Portal and the Network Commerce Wireless Consumer Portal. The Network Commerce Wireless CommerceSuite will include the Wireless Commerce System, a comparison shopping and wireless buying service; and the Wireless Wallet System, where mobile users can establish a secure wireless Internet account with shipping information, preferred credit card numbers and other personal information accessed with a wireless identification number and password. The company will also launch the Wireless Payment System, which includes wireless transaction processing and fraud detection services.
According to Network Commerce’s CEO Dwayne Walker, the wireless market has huge potential, but developing a wireless capability would be cost prohibitive for many businesses. “Our goal is to provide our customers with the infrastructure to successfully conduct commerce via any network – Internet or wireless-enabled Internet
environments.”
