Looking to target the rapidly expanding Chinese Internet market, domain registrar Network Solutions, Inc. today announced the signing of a bilateral agreement with China’s Computer Network Information Center (CNIC), the central domain name registry for the .cn country code top-level domain (ccTLD).
Network Solutions and CNIC will jointly promote Internet address registration in the .com, .net, .org and .cn domains for companies and individuals doing business in China.
“Growth of the Internet market in China has certainly exceeded our expectations,” said Gabe Battista, CEO of Network Solutions. “We are excited to be working with the country registry with the largest population in the world. This agreement will make it easier and faster for Chinese companies and individuals to register in .com, .net and .org, and for eligible companies worldwide to register in China’s .cn domain through Network Solutions’ idNames ccTLD registration services.”
With 24-hour operational support, Network Solutions said it will provide Chinese Internet users with service for domain name registration in the .com, .net and .org global top-level domains (gTLDs).
CNIC agreed to facilitate .cn registration for those registering through Network Solutions’ idNames service, shortening the registration process in .cn from two weeks to three days.
According to recent studies on Chinese Internet development by the China
Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), nearly 1.18 million Chinese
have some form of Internet access, and it is estimated that the Internet
user base in China will grow at least 100% every year through the
year 2000.
In July, Network Solutions expanded its global presence by signing eight other Asian companies to its International Premier Domain Registration Services partner program.
Modeled after its U.S. Premier Domain Registration Services program, the international partner program works to speed the domain name registration process and is designed to provide dedicated account management with customer service to accommodate multiple languages and international time zones.
