Domain name registrar Network Solutions Inc. Thursday expanded its
presence in the Asian market by offering registration services in Japan.
The company entered into a two-year strategic agreement with Japanese
publishing company ASCII Corp. to provide Japanese Internet users with
domain names. ASCII will facilitate .com, .net and .org registrations by
offering translation services, Web site development and local customer
support for the registration service.
Modeled after its U.S. Premier Domain Registration Services program, the
new service will be marketed under the name WorldNIC-JP.
“We are eager to combine our Web address expertise with ASCII’s marketing
strength to reach the rapidly growing Japanese Internet market in a very
powerful way,” said Gabe Battista, chief executive officer of Network
Solutions.
“The Internet is a global medium and we see tremendous opportunities
internationally to expand Internet usage starting with a dot com Web
address.”
Network Solutions, based in Herndon, Va., already has a significant Asian
presence, with services available in China, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
The company also serves several European countries.
