Network Solutions Offers Registration Tools

Aug 31, 1999

Network Solutions, Inc. Monday rolled out an application designed to allow Internet service providers and Web hosting firms to register domain names via its Registrar business.

dot com ISP Tools is a customizable software application designed for companies that do not have their own registration systems but would like to register domain names. Designed as an e-mail template program, users can integrate the tool into their sites to offer basic registration of .com, .net and .org Web addresses. It is also available as a stand-alone program, and can be customized into a variety of languages, the company said.

The tool is available to members of Network Solutions’ Premier Program, the firm (NSOL) said.

“We’re making the job of dot com registration a lot easier for our Premier Partners,”
said Doug Wolford, general manager of Network Solutions’ Registrar and Value
Added Services business unit. “Our dot com ISP Tools can help Web companies
build and enhance their own application systems to improve the registration process
and offer better service to their customers. We believe these tools will become the
industry standard.”

Network Solutions is preparing to give up its monopoly of the domain name registration system
next year, and is currently in a transition period. The company has already accredited 64 independent registrars, who have begun competing with Network Solutions to register domain names.
