OpenSite Technologies said that its OpenSite
Auction 4.0 is scheduled to ship Feb. 15.

The latest version addresses a wider variety of business needs, makes Web
auctions easier and faster to implement, and includes many security
enhancements, the company said. OpenSite Auction 4.0 is targeted to businesses
that want their own branded, online auction.

“With 50 percent market share, OpenSite Auction is the ideal choice for customers
wanting to develop an online auction presence, whether they want to supplement
existing commerce activities or create a stand-alone e-commerce model,” said Michael Brader-Araje, OpenSite CEO and founder. “Now
with OpenSite Auction 4.0, we can solve more business problems than ever
before.”

Forrester Research predicts that business-to-business
online auction transactions will exceed $52.6 billion by the year 2002, while
Keenan Vision predicts that total online auction transactions will exceed $129
billion by 2002.

OpenSite Auction 4.0 is available in three editions–Corporate, Merchant and
Professional. New features include:

  • Reverse Auctions–allowing organizations to procure the lowest possible
price for vendor services using Invitations For Bid (IFB) or Requests for
    Proposals (RFP).
  • Private Auctions–letting auction administrators provide access to a
particular category to some users but not to others via the Access Privileges
feature. The administrator can now hold private auctions or “extranet”
    auctions for selected business partners.
  • Oracle Database Support–allowing customers running Windows NT server to
select Oracle as the database engine for OpenSite Auction, providing increased
data management capability and capacity, and the ability to use third party ad
hoc query and reporting tools to manage and analyze auction data.
  • Enhanced Remote Installation (through CD-ROM)–letting the administrator
remotely install OpenSite Auction across a local area network, or over a wide
area network, such as the Internet.
  • Template Editor–making it easy to customize the Web page templates
provided by OpenSite Auction and allowing administrators to edit and preview
pages from within the software before bringing them online.
  • Style Editor–allowing administrators to create a custom look for
their site by selecting a pre-designed template and then adding their own
unique touches, such as colors, custom images, etc.

Other features include digital certificate security (through secure sockets
layer/SSL),
automatic database encryption and enhanced multi-level administrator
authentication. Pricing data was not disclosed.
