RealNetworks announced this week at the
National Association of
Broadcasters ’98 conference in Las Vegas a series of Internet broadcast
partnerships that serve to further boost industry-wide use of the company’s
streaming media solutions.
The Seattle-based developer announced an exclusive agreement with ABC Radio under which ABC will use the
Real Broadcast Network to
deliver programming for its ABC-owned radio stations and ABC Radio Networks
exclusively in RealAudio.
In partnership with TCI Music, producer of the SonicNet and Streamland music sites, RealNetworks
said it plans to help bring TCI Music’s cable audio service, DMX, and its
music video channel, The BOX, to the Internet.
The companies also announced a co-marketing agreement to promote each
other’s sites, and plan to collaborate on the development of new Web-based
music services and other interactive platforms.
Rolling Stone Network operator JAMTV Corporation also announced a
partnership with RealNetworks to develop “Rolling Stone Video-On-Demand.”
Hosted and promoted by the Real Broadcast Network, the new video-on-demand
service will be located on the Rolling Stone Network and JAMTV, and is
scheduled for launch later this month. It will reportedly feature over 400
current music videos from more than 95 record companies.
In conjunction with Sun Microsystems,
RealNetworks said it will team with CNN Interactive to deliver RealAudio
and RealVideo programming for the popular CNN.com news site using the Sun Solaris
operating environment.
Finally, HBO and Dakota North Entertainment announced they have chosen
RealNetworks RealSystem 5.0 to deliver comedy programming via the Net.

The Shows will use RealAudio, RealVideo, and RealFlash to broadcast
performances by Janeane Garofalo, Steven Wright, Bob Odenkirk, and others.
