RealNetworks Inc.
Monday released the final version of its popular RealSystem G2 streaming
media player.
The product, which was first released in beta form in July, is
designed offer comprehensive multimedia content via both the Internet and
corporate intranets.
Its features include RealAudio and RealVideo technology, with 70 RealChannels
streaming specific categories of content. Content is created and put on the
Internet using the design tool RealProducer Plus.
New to the final version is RealAudio and RealVideo search capabilities,
developed by Excite. The venture,
announced Monday, calls for a search field within RealPlayer’s interface
that makes it simple to find RealAudio and RealVideo content on the
Internet from within the player.
An agreement was also made Monday with QSound Labs to feature its iQfx in
RealPlayer, giving users access to digital 3D audio sound.
“The combination of RealSystem G2’s powerful standards-based media delivery
architecture with its rapid industry and consumer adoption mark a pivotal
point in the development of the Internet,” said Len Jordan, Real’s senior
vice president of media systems.
“RealSystem G2 resets the bar for media delivery on the Internet by
providing consumers with superior audio and video quality as well as the
ability to easily access the broadest range of media programming on the
Internet.”
Since July, 38 million users reportedly have registered G2’s beta.
