[Sydney, AUSTRALIA] Employment site Seek Communications has partnered with Telstra to offer customers of the telco the chance to search for jobs from their Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)-enabled mobile phone.

The new service will allow Telstra WAP users to conduct job searches on the telstra.com consumer portal. Users will be able to search along a range of criteria including location, industry, occupation and keywords, and will be able to view short descriptions of search results and send detailed job information to their personal e-mail address.

The Seek WAP site is accessible from the telstra.com WAP portal home page, under the Money/Finance section.

Seek chief executive officer Paul Bassat said the new offering was not designed to replace the company’s Web site, but provide an extension of its services. “WAP technology allows portable access to the Internet, which is perfect for investigating job opportunities and shortlisting job vacancies on the run,” he said.

Bassat added that the WAP service was developed for the benefit of advertisers as well as job seekers, as WAP provided another vehicle through which they can convey their message “which means increased potential reach and more bang for their buck.”

Seek is currently testing the waters with the WAP site, with Bassat saying that the company will expand the services on offer as users and advertisers request them.
