Sina.com, a network of portals targeting the global Chinese community, and search engine AltaVista have signed a worldwide agreement to provide Sina.com users with faster and more comprehensive Internet search services.

Scheduled to launch on June 14, the Chinese portal will integrate AltaVista’s search engine with its existing search technology and Web directory.

Sina.com believes that the result will enable its users to enhance
their search capabilities in Chinese and English.

“Our partnership with AltaVista takes Sina.com’s search capabilities to
the next level and exemplifies Sina’s commitment to best-of-breed services
for our users,” said Hurst Lin, vice president of business development,
Sina.com.

“Sina.com has the largest user base and highest number of page
views in its category,” continued Lin. “Working with AltaVista, one of the best technology companies in the world, will provide our users with access to nearly 200 million Web pages.”

Sina.com is a network of three Chinese portals including one for overseas Chinese, one for Taiwan, and one for mainland China.

“We are excited to be providing our core technology to Sina.com’s user base
and to be partnering with the leading Internet site for the global Chinese
community,” said Greg Memo, vice president and general manager, AltaVista
Search.

“This partnership furthers our global presence and cements our
commitment to developing search services for Asia,” added Memo.
