Snap Goes Bidding With CityAuction

Portal site Snap
has teamed up with CityAuction
to form a co-branded auction classifieds service, Snap CityAuction.

The new service combines Snap’s local content with CityAuction’s
geographically targeted person-to-person service, intended to provide users
with the option to trade either locally or long distance.

“Snap is focused on helping our users tap the power of the Internet to make
their lives easier,” said Edmond Sanctis, chief operating officer of Snap.
“Snap CityAuction is a great example. It’s a practical, fun and incredibly
easy way for people to buy and sell anything, from computers to
collectibles.”

The site is linked from the Snap classifieds channel, and includes
categories such as books, movies and music, collectibles, computers and
software, electronics and appliances, jewelry and sporting
goods. The service also includes a notify feature, where users
can enter keywords of items they are looking for and CityAuction will
notify the user when the item is placed for auction.

“Our dream is to build CityAuction into the single place where people can
buy and sell absolutely anything on the Internet,”
said Andy Rebele, founder of CityAuction.

“By partnering with Snap, we introduce this resource to a much larger group
of people. With the
consumer brand of NBC and the Internet expertise of
CNET, Snap is the perfect way for us to reach out to new customers.”

Tuesday’s agreement adds Snap to the growing list of sites offering auctions.
Yahoo!, Excite and America Online also added auction services to
their host of offerings recently.
