Space Media Expands Into Australia

Hong Kong advertising agency Space Media has set up an
Australian office and has debuted with 30 sites already in its local
portfolio.

Space Media Australia has signed up the TWI network of sports sites and
will also represent FreeISP, one of the handful of the companies which is
testing the advertising-based free Internet business model.

The company uses technology called AdManage, licensed from a company owned
by CMGI called Engage, to deliver banner ads and other forms of advertising
to targetted audiences – making it a direct competitor to established local
players such as DoubleClick Australia and Sabela Media.

Space Media was established in January 1998, and now represents 130 Web
sites across Asia, including ZDNet Taiwan and Alta Vista Asia (the
Australian versions of these are represented by DoubleClick and Pacific
Access, respectively).

The new managing director of Space Media Australia will be David Catterall,
who was most recently MD of International Thomson Publishing in Asia. The
company said it would announce a “seven figure advertising commitment” next
week.
