Streaming media company Speedera Networks says it has reached an agreement with Seattle-based Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) to give the online retailer’s customers high-quality streamed samples and previews of Amazon.com’s audio, video and game products.

“Amazon.com obviously knows what it takes to sell products online,” says Gordon Smith, vice president of marketing at Speedera. “It also recognizes that the customer’s Web experience is a key ingredient in maintaining a leadership position.”

Santa Clara-based Speedera’s streaming package supports live and on-demand streaming and uses the most popular formats, including Windows Media, Real Media, QuickTime, MP3, MPEG-1, MPEG-4 and RTSP.

The company also says its global network is designed to let end-users receive the content from a streaming server that is located closest to them.

Amazon.com lists millions of unique items in categories such as electronics, kitchen and housewares, books, music, DVDs, videos, camera and photo items, toys, software, computer and video games, tools and hardware, outdoor living and wireless products. The company say the addition of streaming media to its selling techniques is a natural fit.

“Digital media streaming has enormous long-term potential for online retail,” says Jeff Blackburn, general manager of Amazon Worldwide Digital Group. “Amazon.com is increasingly using promotional music, video, and game streams to improve our customers’ product discovery and purchase decision process. Our relationship with Speedera will help us make streaming media an even larger part of the shopping experience on our Web sites worldwide.”
