Swedish Sport Stars Open Online Shopping Site

Sportus, a new sports-oriented shopping site led by some familiar names, debuts its storefront in Sweden and prepares for an immediate lunge at the global market.

Sportus.se aims to be the largest interactive sports store in Sweden, and the company already has plans to roll out its e-tail model on a global scale.

Sportus will launch a US version of the site in the next six months, as well as local launches in eight other European countries over the same time period.


Sportus will adapt the payment concept in each country and are using just in time delivery system for customers thanks to cooperation with its suppliers. A separate warehouse will stock the most popular items for fast delivery.


The company’s ambition is to build a shop that offers athletes and sports enthusiasts easy access to a broad selection of quality products, including branded products at competitive prices, said Sportus CEO Hakan Strom. Strom gained his retail experience from building brand loyalty for Levi Strauss and Dockers.


Sportus was founded by the venture capital company Result Venture Knowledge . Its managing team include sport stars like Martin Dahlin, Stefan Schwarz, Mattias Norstrom and Ove Rytter. Among its owners are some familiar Internet market names, such as Kjell Spangberg, Ola Ahlvarsson and Johan Stakl von Holstein and companies like Nokia and New Media Investors.
