Internet directory serviceSwitchboard Inc., a majority-owned subsidiary of Banyan Systems Incorporated, today announced a partnership with Community Newspaper Company, a subsidiary of Fidelity Capital.

According to the companies, visitors to CNC’s Town Online, a local information Web site in Eastern Massachusetts, will soon be able to access Switchboard’s directory service to find businesses and people on the Internet.

Town Online will also offer local businesses the opportunity to advertise within Switchboard’s directory, the companies said.

The directory services, which will be co-branded for Town Online, will be accessible through links on the front page of the site, as well as integrated into Shop Town Online, the new local business section of the site. By clicking to these services, the firms stated that Town Online visitors can access yellow and white page directories as well as an email directory.

“Community Newspaper Company is the ideal partner for Switchboard’s strategic initiative to provide directory services, unique local ad products and innovative ad management tools to the newspaper industry,” said Dean Polnerow, president of Switchboard. “Town Online is serious about taking the idea of a Web portal down to the community level, and Switchboard has proven services and tools to help them achieve that goal.”
