Yahoo! Canada launched Yahoo! Canada News–a frequently updated source for Canadian news on the World Wide Web.
Yahoo! Canada users can access current news coverage of Canadian stories, world, business, entertainment, and sports, the company said. Yahoo! News stories are supplied by Canadian Press, and include articles from Associated Press.
According to Yahoo!, the addition of the news service strengthens the company’s position as a key Web source for Canadian interests.
“This is a tremendously positive move for Yahoo! Canada,” observed Jim Carroll, co-author of the Canadian Internet Handbook. “It’s great to see an initiative that brings more Canadian content to the Internet in an easily accessible fashion. And no doubt, the ability to search through recent news archives will provide Canadians with some powerful research capabilities.”
“The addition of Yahoo! Canada News is the latest move to further enrich our users’ experience by delivering comprehensive content that complements the Yahoo! Canada Internet guide,” said Michael Abramsky, president of Yahoo! Canada. “More than ever, Canadians of all ages and levels of Internet experience can turn to Yahoo! Canada for their online information needs.”
Yahoo! said that the service is to be complemented by a link to weather.yahoo.com, offering users five-day weather forecasts and satellite images for cities from Victoria to St. John’s.
